WASHINGTON-Congressman Spencer Bachus is pleased to announce that the United States Department of Transportation has recently approved a $4.6 million dollar grant for Birmingham International Airport. The Birmingham Airport Authority will use the grant to remove obstructions (high terrain) in the approach to runway 24. This will enhance airport safety. The grant also provides funds for the construction of a new electrical vault. The current vault is at capacity, and no new capacity can be added.

“The city of Birmingham is growing, and Birmingham International needs funds to upgrade their facilities to serve increased traffic. Just this past week Delta added 2 daily round trip flights to Orlando”, Bachus said. “I will continue to work to ensure that we have a world class airport to serve our world class city.”
